Five Airports Inside an Hour.
Only One of Them Is Usually the Right Answer.
Miami is not one airport question, it is five. Opa-locka takes almost anything and sits thirty minutes from Miami Beach. Miami Executive is closer to Coral Gables and capped by a 6,000-foot runway. Miami International is fastest to Brickell and shuts most large-cabin aircraft out of its general aviation parking.
Which field you use changes the drive, the handling and the price. We settle that before you commit.
What to Do in Miami
Miami runs on a season. December through April is the reliable window, dry, high sixties to mid-seventies, the lowest humidity of the year. Mid-March to late April is the sweet spot, summery without the afternoon thunderstorms. July and August average 91F with near-daily storms and the lowest rates of the year. Humidity never really leaves. Winter is drier, not dry.
The art is why a lot of clients come. Wynwood Walls on NW 2nd Avenue opens daily and anchors the gallery district around it. The Institute of Contemporary Art in the Design District is free and closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Perez Art Museum sits on the bay and shuts Tuesday and Wednesday. Vizcaya, the 1916 villa in Coconut Grove, closes Tuesdays.
On the water, Dinner Key in Coconut Grove is the largest marina in the city and Miami Beach Marina is the busiest on the beach. Boats run out to Stiltsville, the Nixon Sandbar off Key Biscayne and Boca Chita Key in Biscayne National Park. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park opens at eight and holds the 1825 lighthouse.
Shark Valley on the Tamiami Trail is the quick Everglades entrance from the city. Thirty-five dollars a vehicle, valid a week, card only, no cash. The dry season from December to April is when the wildlife concentrates and the mosquitoes back off.
Arrive in Style for Miami’s Top Events
With private jet charter options, you can avoid the crowds and delays, arriving at the Miami airport of your choice, ready to experience the best the city has to offer.
Travel directly to Miami and enjoy world-class occasions such as:
The rest of the calendar is worth planning around. The Miami International Boat Show runs 10 to 14 February 2027 and the South Beach Wine and Food Festival 25 to 28 February. Ultra is 26 to 28 March. The Miami Open is scheduled 14 to 28 March, still subject to change, and Formula 1 does not publish the 2027 calendar until autumn 2026.
Every one of those weeks does the same thing to the airports. Opa-locka fills first, parking is allocated before the aircraft is, and Sunday evening is the worst departure window of the event. We book the parking with the flight.
Where to Stay in Miami
The beach splits into three. Mid-Beach holds Faena on Collins Avenue, the Miami Beach EDITION and Nobu at the Eden Roc. South Beach has The Setai, 1 Hotel, The Betsy on Ocean Drive and the Delano, which reopened in spring 2026 after a hundred-million-dollar rebuild.
North of that, Surfside and Bal Harbour carry the Four Seasons at The Surf Club, Acqualina at Sunny Isles and the St Regis. Off the beach, Four Seasons Brickell suits a downtown week and the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne reopened in December 2025 after a hundred-million-dollar renovation.
Two of the beach’s best rooms are out. W South Beach closes on 20 August 2026 and returns as a Waldorf Astoria in winter 2027. The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour is shut for renovation until December 2026. Between them that takes several hundred top-tier keys off the beach before Art Basel.
February is the busiest month in the city and prices follow. Grand Prix weekend carries a three-night minimum at most properties, and the best inventory goes three to six months out. August is the trough. Book rooms and aircraft on the same call.
Where to Eat in Miami
The 2026 MICHELIN Guide was the first to cover the whole state, and Miami took fifteen stars. L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in the Design District holds two, the only two-star in Florida. Mutra in North Miami earned its first this year and is the first kosher restaurant anywhere to hold one.
Shingo in Coral Gables seats fourteen and releases by the month, so an entire month can go at once. Hiden in Wynwood runs two seatings a night. Boia De in Buena Vista drops thirty days out and the tables are usually gone the same day.
The other half of Miami eats standing up. La Camaronera on West Flagler has been frying the pan con minuta since 1973 and the kitchen shuts at four most days. Garcia’s is a working fish market on the Miami River. El Mago de las Fritas holds a James Beard America’s Classics award for one sandwich.
Chef Creole and Chez Le Bebe in Little Haiti do conch and griot off a steam table. None of them take a booking, which makes them the reliable answer during Art Basel week when everything else is spoken for.
One seasonal trap. Stone crab season runs 15 October to 1 May — outside it the claws are previously frozen, whatever the menu says.
Flying Into Miami
Opa-locka is the default. The main runway is 8,002 feet and takes anything, including ultra-long-range aircraft inbound from Latin America and Europe, and five FBOs work the field. The catch is overnight — 9L/27R closes daily from roughly midnight to eight in the morning unless it is opened on sixty minutes’ notice. The 6,800-foot 12/30 stays available.
Miami International is the closest field to Brickell and the only one with round-the-clock customs, but its general aviation parking bars anything over a 78-foot wingspan and requires three hours’ prior permission. Fort Lauderdale International is the reliable fallback for a heavy jet arriving from abroad once Opa-locka’s customs window has shut.
In peak weeks the aircraft can get an arrival. It cannot always stay. The binding constraint in South Florida is an FBO parking reservation, not an air traffic slot, and hangar space that exists in July is spoken for by January. We book the parking with the flight.
Hurricane season runs 1 June to 30 November and peaks from mid-August. Hull policies carry named-storm clauses that raise deductibles and can require relocation, so based aircraft leave South Florida before the customers do. Supply falls as demand spikes. The usable window is 36 to 60 hours.
THE AIRPORTS PEAK USES
Miami-Opa Locka Executive (OPF) — 30 minutes to Miami Beach, 35 to downtown. 8,002 ft. Signature, Atlantic, Jet Aviation, Fontainebleau and Embassair all on field. The default for almost every trip.
Miami Executive (TMB) — 35 to 55 minutes to Brickell. 6,000 ft, no curfew. Closer to Coral Gables, Pinecrest and Kendall. Light and midsize, and the sensible field for a Keys or Ocean Reef connection.
Miami International (MIA) — 20 minutes to Brickell. Round-the-clock customs, Signature only, three hours’ prior permission, and a 78-foot wingspan cap on general aviation parking.
Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) — 45 to 70 minutes down I-95. 6,002 ft. Banyan can hold two hundred aircraft on the field, which makes it the overflow answer in peak weeks.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) — 35 to 55 minutes. 9,000 ft and a dedicated general aviation customs facility. Sixth busiest business aviation airport in the US in 2025.
Key West (EYW) — 35 to 45 minutes by air. 5,076 ft, a voluntary 2300 to 0700 curfew and customs closed Sundays. A tag-on leg, usually flown on a light jet rather than the Miami aircraft.
Palm Beach is 75 to 110 minutes north and changed identifier this year. It is DJT now, not PBI, as of 9 July 2026. We use it as overflow, not as a first choice.
Flight Times to Miami
Typical block times inbound to Opa-locka, wheels-up to wheels-down.
Westbound is slower. Miami to San Francisco in winter runs 5h50 to 6h45 against the jet stream.
Aircraft for the Mission
Passenger count, bags and the length of the leg decide it. The direction matters more than most pages admit.
Best for
Teterboro, Washington, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nassau, Key West.
Why
780 to 1,090 nm non-stop with full seats. Midsize is a cabin choice on these routes, not a range requirement.
Best for
Bozeman, Aspen, an inbound West Coast leg.
Why
Comfortable non-stop from the Rockies and the coast with a tailwind. Aspen’s 95-foot wingspan limit and 7,820-foot field elevation make that departure a payload calculation.
Best for
San Francisco westbound, transatlantic, South America.
Why
The return west against a winter jet stream is where a marginal aircraft becomes a fuel stop. Note the 78-foot wingspan cap at Miami International.

Empty Legs and Pricing
Quotes are all-inclusive. No membership fees, no jet card, no charge for asking.
Miami is one of the densest empty-leg markets in the country, and the reason is structural. Teterboro logged 75,029 departures in 2025, Westchester 36,921, Palm Beach around 34,000 and Fort Lauderdale International sixth. Four of the six busiest business aviation airports in the US sit on the Northeast to South Florida axis, and Florida is the busiest departure state in the country in early December.
Opa-locka adds a second flow. It is the US gateway for Latin American private aviation, with regular corridors to São Paulo, Bogotá, Caracas and St Barthélemy. Those legs reposition on their own schedule, which is why Miami empty legs turn up outside the snowbird season as well as inside it.
Peak keeps a live empty leg listing. If you want the mechanics before you commit, our broker’s guide to how empty leg flights work and how to actually book one sets out the pricing and the catches.
You pay for the flight, not the privilege of asking about one. If your dates flex by a day, say so — that is when an empty leg is worth checking.

Miami Charter Questions, Answered
Which Miami airport should I fly into?
Opa-locka for almost every trip. It is thirty minutes from Miami Beach, its main runway is 8,002 feet, and five FBOs work the field. Miami International is closer to Brickell and has round-the-clock customs, but its general aviation parking bars wingspans over 78 feet. Miami Executive suits Coral Gables and Kendall. Fort Lauderdale picks up the overflow.
Is there a curfew at Opa-locka?
Not a curfew, but a runway closure. 9L/27R, the 8,002-foot runway, closes daily from roughly midnight to eight in the morning local time unless it is opened with sixty minutes notice. The 6,800-foot 12/30 stays available through the night. It is a noise-sensitive airport, and the weight limits published for it apply to flight training rather than transient charter.
How far ahead should I book for Art Basel or the Grand Prix?
Earlier than the flight. Aircraft parking is the constraint in South Florida, not the arrival, and hangar space that exists in July is spoken for by January. Art Basel Miami Beach runs 4 to 6 December 2026. The 2027 Grand Prix date has not been confirmed, because Formula 1 publishes the calendar in autumn. Give us your dates as soon as you have them and we hold the parking with the flight.
What does a private jet charter to Miami cost?
It depends on the aircraft, the route and the week. A light jet from Teterboro and a heavy jet from San Francisco sit in very different brackets, and Art Basel week does not price like August. Quotes from Peak are all-inclusive, with no membership fee and no jet card commitment. Ask, and we will price the aircraft against your actual dates.
Can you fly into Miami during hurricane season?
Yes, and we do. Season runs 1 June to 30 November and peaks from mid-August. The thing to understand is that the aircraft leave before the people do. Hull insurance carries named-storm clauses that raise deductibles and can require relocation, so South Florida supply falls exactly as demand rises. The usable booking window before a landfall is roughly 36 to 60 hours. Call early rather than late.
Which aircraft fits a Miami trip?
Passenger count, bags and the leg decide it. A light jet does Teterboro, Washington, Boston, Chicago or Dallas non-stop with full seats. Bozeman or an inbound West Coast leg wants a super-midsize. The return west against a winter jet stream is where a heavy jet earns its keep, and it is the one direction that catches people out.
