Where to Stay in London
London’s grand hotels cluster in two places, and the choice is largely about which side of the parks you want to be on. Claridge’s in Mayfair is the one that survives every change of fashion, and its refurbishment programme is finished. The Connaught is two streets away, quieter, with Hélène Darroze downstairs. The Savoy sits on the Strand with the river behind it, closer to the City and the theatres, and is refurbishing floor by floor with the hotel open throughout.
The airport decides more than people expect. Coming into Farnborough or Biggin Hill you are roughly an hour from Mayfair on a good day and rather longer on a bad one, and Luton adds the M1. Book the room for where the days actually are: a week of meetings in the City is a different hotel from four days of Mayfair and the parks, and in London the traffic makes that difference real.
Where to Eat in London
London rewards booking ahead more than almost any city. The Ritz Restaurant is the full formal room, lunch and dinner daily, jacket and tie, and the least likely of the three to disappoint anyone in the party. Scott’s on Mount Street is the Mayfair lunch, open daily, and the one to use when the day is unstructured. Hélène Darroze at The Connaught holds three Michelin stars and is the reservation to make first if the trip has one dinner that matters.
A note on timing. The London season, roughly May through July, takes the good tables and the good rooms at the same time: Chelsea Flower Show, Royal Ascot and Wimbledon land inside eight weeks, and the Farnborough airshow takes the business aviation slots every other July. August is the quietest month in the city and the easiest one to fly into.

About seven hours from the New York area and a little over ten from the West Coast. From Bozeman it is nonstop in a long-range jet and a one-stop trip in most midsize aircraft.

From the East Coast, a super-midsize or heavy jet does it comfortably. From the Mountain West or the West Coast you need a long-range heavy. We will tell you when a fuel stop makes more sense than stretching the aircraft.
