The Flatirons From the Left Seat. Twenty Minutes to Pearl Street.

Private jet charter to Boulder lands at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan (BJC) in Broomfield, twenty-odd minutes from Pearl Street; Boulder Municipal takes light aircraft and gliders, not jets. Peak is a pilot-founded charter broker in Bozeman, Montana; Peak arranges the flight and an ARGUS TripCheq or Wyvern vetted operator flies it. BJC sits at 5,673 feet, and on a warm afternoon density altitude costs runway and payload, so a July departure goes earlier or lighter. Bozeman is 1 h 15. More in the airport panel below.

What to Do in Boulder

The Flatirons are the reason the town looks the way it does — five tilted slabs of sandstone standing over the west side, with the trailheads starting at Chautauqua Park rather than an hour up a canyon. Eldorado Canyon is twenty minutes south and holds some of the best traditional rock climbing in the country. Eldora is forty-five minutes west once there is snow on it.

Downtown is four pedestrian blocks of Pearl Street, and it works because the university is walking distance from it. Rocky Mountain National Park is an hour and a quarter northwest through Estes Park. The Boulder Creek Path runs the length of town and explains why almost nobody here drives to a trailhead.

Where to Stay

St Julien is the flagship — a full spa, a lawn that looks straight at the Flatirons, and a two-minute walk to Pearl Street. Hotel Boulderado has been open since 1909 and stayed open through a phased renovation that brought it under the Graduate by Hilton flag. It kept its own name, and the basement bar is one of the oldest rooms in town.

The one worth knowing about is the Colorado Chautauqua. Its cottages sit on a National Historic Landmark site at the foot of the Flatirons with the trailhead outside the door. They are not luxury and are not pretending to be. Summer weekends and Sundance week go months ahead.

Where to Eat

Frasca Food and Wine on Pearl Street holds the only Michelin star in Boulder and has held it since the Colorado guide launched. The Friulian menu and the wine list are why people drive up from Denver, and it books weeks out. Below that the Bib Gourmand tier is unusually deep for a town this size — Cozobi Fonda Fina, BASTA, Ginger Pig and Mister Oso all carry one.

The local half matters more. The Sink has been on University Hill since 1923 and still serves burgers under painted ceilings. Lucile’s does Creole breakfast out of a Victorian house on 14th Street — the Boulder original, not the Littleton branch, which has closed. The Dushanbe Teahouse was hand-carved in Tajikistan, shipped over in crates and reassembled here.

Signature Events in Boulder

Three weeks the town fills up. Book the aircraft before the room.

Sundance Film Festival
January

The festival left Park City after more than forty years and lands in Boulder for the first time from 21 to 31 January 2027, using venues across town and the CU campus. It is the biggest change to Boulder’s January in decades, and lodging runs out long before the aircraft does. Our Sundance charter page covers the week in detail.

BOLDERBoulder 10K
Memorial Day

One of the largest 10K races in the country, run every Memorial Day and finishing inside Folsom Field in front of a full stadium. Roughly fifty thousand runners plus the people who came to watch them, which is most of the town’s lodging for the weekend.

CU Football Saturdays
September to November

Home Saturdays at Folsom Field put fifty thousand people into a town of about a hundred thousand. Hotel rates move, the drive in from the south slows down, and the visiting charters tend to go to Denver rather than the smaller fields.

Which Airport Should a Private Jet Use for Boulder?

Boulder has its own airport and you will not be using it. Boulder Municipal is a 4,100-foot strip that is home to the Soaring Society of Boulder and works for light aircraft and gliders, not for jets.

The field that matters is Rocky Mountain Metropolitan in Broomfield, sitting on US 36 between Denver and Boulder. It has a 9,000-foot main runway, a second at just over 7,000 feet, and two FBOs on the field.

Elevation there is 5,673 feet, and that is the part worth planning around. On a warm afternoon density altitude climbs well past 8,000 feet and costs you runway and payload, so a July departure often goes earlier in the day, or lighter, than the same trip in January.

THE AIRPORTS PEAK USES

BJC — Rocky Mountain Metropolitan, Broomfield. The default. Twenty-odd minutes to downtown Boulder, two FBOs, 9,000 feet of runway. The tower runs 0600 to 2200 local; outside those hours the field does not close, it simply goes uncontrolled.

APA — Centennial, south metro. The alternate when Broomfield is full or the weather favours it. Roughly fifty minutes from Boulder in ordinary traffic and longer on a weekday afternoon.

DEN — Denver International. Long runways and full services when a storm shuts the smaller fields. Around forty-five minutes to Boulder, and the least pleasant of the three on the ground.

BDU — Boulder Municipal. Listed for completeness. Light aircraft and gliders only.

Boulder Charter Questions, Answered

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan (BJC) in Broomfield, about twenty minutes from downtown Boulder. It has a 9,000-foot main runway and two FBOs. Centennial (APA) and Denver International (DEN) are the alternates. Boulder Municipal (BDU) is a light-aircraft and glider field and is not used for jet charter.

In practice, no. BDU is a 4,100-foot runway serving light aircraft and gliders. Jet charter into Boulder uses Rocky Mountain Metropolitan in Broomfield instead, which is closer to downtown Boulder than Denver International and has the runway to match.

Roughly an hour and a quarter from Bozeman, an hour and three quarters from Dallas, two hours from Los Angeles, two and a quarter from Chicago, and about three and three quarters from the New York area. Winds and aircraft type move those numbers.

It affects performance more than access. Rocky Mountain Metropolitan sits at 5,673 feet, so on a hot afternoon density altitude climbs well past 8,000 feet and a heavier aircraft may need an earlier departure or less fuel. Your operator plans for it; it is worth knowing when you pick a departure time.

Three to four weeks in the quiet months. Two to three months for Sundance week in late January, for Memorial Day weekend when the BOLDERBoulder fills the town, and for CU home football Saturdays. Book the lodging on the same call, because in Boulder the room runs out before the aircraft does.

No. No membership, no annual dues, no initiation. Peak is a pilot-founded charter broker in Bozeman with access to more than 5,000 airports nationwide and worldwide, working only with vetted operators. You pay for the flight, not the privilege of asking about one.

Yes, more often than in most markets. Empty legs to or from Boulder exist only when an aircraft is already repositioning and your dates line up with it, but Denver is a base for a lot of owner aircraft and the corridor west to Aspen, Eagle and Jackson runs hard all winter, so they are more findable here. They are worth asking about and never worth planning around. What is currently available is listed on the empty legs page.

Jeff and I have booked all our private flights to and from Montana with Peak Aviation Solutions. He is wonderful to work with and accommodates our plans even when we have had to change them on short notice. Everything feels very professional and safe. Planes and pilots are have been great. We have looked at other booking possibilities and they have been more expensive and not as willing to work around our schedules. Thank you, for flying us safely. We love working with someone who is very capable and local!
